F. A. Q.

N95s and KN95s are both rated to capture 95% of particles, although only KN95 masks are required to pass fit tests. N95 masks have marginally better requirements for breathability. With regard to filtration specifications, N95 and KN95 respirator masks are the same. Both masks are rated to capture 95% of microscopic particles (as small as 0.3 micron particles).

Specification N95 KN95
Filter Performance ≥ 95% ≥ 95%
Filtration Level 0.3 Microns 0.3 Microns
Test Agent NaCl NaCl
Flow Rate 85 L/min 85 L/min
Inhalation Resistance ≤ 343 Pascals ≤ 350 Pascals
Exhalation Resistance ≤ 245 Pascals ≤ 250 Pascals

When practicing extended use of KN95 respirators, the maximum recommended extended use period is 8–12 hours. Respirators should not be worn for multiple work shifts and should not be reused after extended use. KN95 respirators should be removed (doffed) and discarded before activities such as meals and restroom breaks.

The mask must form a seal with the wearer’s face, so that air passes through the filter (instead of around the edges) before it is inhaled. To ensure a proper seal, the wearer should ensure the respirator edges do not touch any facial hair. Clean-shaven is ideal for a good seal.

Store the mask in a clean and cool place. Avoid high temperature over 100°F and humidity over 80%

A KN95 mask has two-layers of electrostatically charged melt-blown non-woven to capture tiny particles that other fabrics can't filter.

No. What you see here are the fusing points that hold all 5 layers together. These connection points give the mask more effective.
